    I have just completed a heating - cost analysis for our home for the first three months since Viking Mechanical installed our new Trane heat pump last December.

    I just want to express to you how happy my wife and I are with our decision to install a heat pump in our home this past summer. As you know, I agonize over the decision for a very long time because of conflicting opinions from other HVAC companies.

    Despite my hesitation, we decided on the heat pump. On July 20, you and Josh installed a new water heater and heat pump in one day. I had heard all the stories of how a heat pump would really leave us freezing in the winter time and how the new, high efficiency fossil fuel furnace was the best choice in the cold winter months in South Dakota. Well, because of Viking Mechanical, we don't worry about carbon monoxide in our home, we don't worry about dirt from burning fuel, and we don't contribute to more air pollution by burning gas or fuel oil for heat. My wife immediately noticed the even temperature both in the summer and winter, it never varies more than 1 degree.

    Heating our house (2200 Square feet) thus far this season through February 28 has cost $145.00 That is less than 1/4 of the cost of last year with using fossil fuel.

    With you, service means exactly that.. a rarity these days.

    It has been about three months now, since you and your team replaced my fuel oil furnace with a Trane electric heat pump. Tam and I want you to know how pleased we are that we made the decision to make this change in our heating and cooling system. Without a question, this was the best financial move we have made in a long time.

    Since you have installed our heat pump, our electric bills for heat have averaged about $30.00/month or about 10% of what I would have paid for oil heat.

    I expect to recover my $6,500.00 investment (the approximate cost of my system) in four or five years. This places no value on our peace of mind and increased security that we feel every time our furnace turns on.

    Having elaborated on how happy we are with our new system, I also want to emphasize how pleased we were with the service we received from Viking Mechanical and Black Hills Cooperative (BHEC).

    This is in response to your request for a comparison of our old fuel oil furnace and our new heat pump system you installed for us in October 2005.

    Over the past 10 years we used on average 500 gallons of fuel oil per year to heat our home.

    After the installation of the new heat pump we have averaged $40.00 per month. We are supplied electricity through Black Hills Electric Co-Op and pay 3.5 cents per KWH for the heating electricity.

    It would be an understatement, to say we are pleased with the heating cost reduction
